The Japanese print depicts the famous scene from a Kabuki play where a man called Matsuomaru discovering his son's head, who got killed, being a scapegoat for his master's son. Matsuō knew that would be his son's head but seeing it and hiding his feeling led him to have that facial expression. Two actor's roles names and their names are also printed: Onoe Kikugorō as Matsuō; Ichikawa Danjūrō as Genzō.

That's a very famous kabuki, and it's being handed down even now
